Arts and Crafts Movement

Learn more about the Arts and Crafts Movement

There are quite a few websites dedicated to the Arts and Crafts movement. Visit the Arts and Crafts Museum for general information, or find out about William Morris. One of the best preserved Arts and Crafts interiors is 7 Hammersmith Terrace, former home of Sir Emery Walker, who was an antiquarian and typographer, and a close friend of William Morris.

A little-known and delightful museum is the Museum of Domestic Design and Architecture (MoDA) in north London, where you can see how domestic interiors evolved between 1900 and 1960. A good source of information about Victorian homes is the Victorian Society. Their ‘Care for Victorian Homes’ series of booklets offers advice on how to restore different aspects of Victorian homes, such as timber windows, decorative tiles and fireplaces. A good deal of the information is relevant for Brentham homes.
